Rick told me something I keep coming back to… “Love is never more than one breath away.” 🌬️

His story started at sixteen, with a series of mystical experiences in high school. Something opened. He started to sense himself and others in a deeper way. By seventeen he was meditating twice a day… he wanted to know himself, to love himself, to awaken.

Sixteen was when I had my first awakening too. Maybe that's why I listened so closely.

And then Rick named the place where so many of us get lost on that path… self judgment.

I judge someone. Then I judge myself for judging. Then I judge myself for that. Fifty dominoes down, and it feels like I'm “buried alive inside of self judgment,” a thousand miles from the surface, sure I'll never get back. ⚓️

What moved me is that Rick doesn't ask us to climb back up all fifty. Love is one breath away from any of those dominoes… even the fiftieth.

And if you try and it doesn't work? He invites kindness for that too. No need to go deeper. Just the surface layer of the onion. Just what's here. 🧅

He also shared a Native American saying I can't stop thinking about: we ask for strength, and the great spirit gives us challenges, which make us strong. So if unconditional love is what we're after… we get to welcome all the conditions that life presents to us. ✨
