The six year old who listened to the quiet

A ritual that shaped a whole life... and what Narain taught me about presence

Hi friend,

I've been in conversation with every single speaker of the Permanent Presence Summit™… and I want to begin sharing this journey with you talking about one of the humans who taught me the most about how humbleness and presence are connected… Narain.

⸻

When Narain was around six, he had a secret ritual. He'd lie in bed, stay awake, and listen to the quiet. Just to see how quiet quiet could be.

And sometimes… the boy and the silence would melt into each other. And bliss would move through him, boundless.

That taste became the thread of his whole life. Even the years he spent trying to numb it.

[When was the first time You tasted presence?]

⸻

What touched me most is what came after. How the spiritual path became, in his words, an escape pod. A way to get rid of himself. Because deep down he believed he was the problem… that he had no value.

Then I heard him say: presence is only available in the absence of judgment.

So the kindest thing isn't becoming someone better. It's to stop resisting the one who's already here.

I felt it in my body while he spoke… the bigger my resistance, the bigger my pain. Less resistance, less pain. Easier to say than to live… and still true.

⸻

He told me about two years separated from his wife and daughter, waiting for an USA visa. His first reaction was "I don't want this." Then he saw that fighting what was already happening only amplified the suffering. Letting go wasn't weakness. It was where his power came back.

And he asked me a question I keep asking myself: if I want to be permanently present… what's the lie behind that noble pursuit?

The lie is that I'm not already that…

⸻

Narain's full session premieres on opening day, Friday November 13, at the Permanent Presence Summit™. Free and online, anywhere you are, November 13 to 16, starting on the International Day of Kindness.

In the Premium part of our session he goes even deeper… his daughter Sophia, why a pinky promise can matter more than most adult commitments, and the one commitment he'd ask of all of us.

I choose to stop fighting what already happened… I choose to love the parts of me that feel unlovable… I choose, if you want, to do it with you.
