Bisila Bokoko said something that stayed with me: presence isn’t only something we find in prayer or meditation. It can be in the water we drink, the clothes we wear, the books we read, the people around us, and even the money we use.“Honor everything,” she said.

That sounds simple. But how often am I moving through the day without really noticing what’s here?Bisila’s practice of journaling helps her pay attention: to what’s happening now, what she’s grateful for, and what she hopes for. She calls it narrative intelligence. Noticing the story she’s telling herself and choosing how she wants to meet what comes next.

For her, that includes changing “Why would this happen for me?” to “Why not?” That shift helped her step into a Vogue Business photo shoot she once thought was out of reach.Presence also means listening to the body, Bisila says.

Our stories live there, and movement can help us meet what we’re feeling rather than stay stuck in an old story.Her words brought me back to this: presence isn’t about escaping our lives. It’s about returning to them—with attention. To the body, the people we love, the moment we’re in, and the possibility that’s still here.
